Casey from Year 8, Ridgewood School:

The Bodyguard series is an intriguing idea. Recruit
highly-skilled teenagers from across the world to work as
'buddyguards' - bodyguards who can go places adults cannot. One
of these 'buddyguards' happens to be fourteen-year-old English
kickboxing champion Connor Reeves. His mission? To protect the
President's daughter. Connor is soon plunged into a world of
threats, where a potential hostile waits around every corner.
Packed full of suspense and action, Bodyguard is definitely
worth a read.

Abby from Year 10, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Don't get me wrong, I liked the book, it was exciting and
filled with action. It was wrought with danger and at some
points it was hard to put down.

..But.. The basic story line was so unbelievable. A fourteen
year old bodyguard. Really? Despite being an awesome fourteen
year old myself, I highly doubt that someone of the same age as
I can protect the president's daughter from
kidnap/death/attack. Oh, and the lovey-dovey aspect in the book
was terrible. I mean if you're going to put that in there then
it is all or nothing, don't sort of hint at it and then change
your mind and go full fledge. It was fake, it was very, very
ugh. Also, Buddyguard. Buddyguard! Of all the things Colonel
Black could have named this hardcore, secret agency of his he
chose Buddyguard. Yeah, I get the pun and it is clever, I
guess, but it is so cringe-worthy, it's hard to take these
dudes serious if their occupation is buddyguard.

The book is good, though, it has some-what plausible aspects to
it and it's kind of well written, I guess. The fight scenes
were exciting and fast paced. There were some okay jokes in
there, too. The characters were cool people, well the ones who
weren't terrorists were.

My favourite character was Kalila because she came across as
soft spoken and polite, but also very friendly and down to
earth, not at all snobbish despite coming from a family with
money. She was reliable and nice and sweet, I really liked her.

My least favourite character was, unfortunately, Colonel Black.
I didn't really like him because he didn't show much emotion
and he was just there. Also, he named his bad-ass agency
Buddyguard. I didn't dislike him, though, I just don't think I
got the opportunity to like him. As weird as that sounds.

I highly recommend that you read this book and decide upon an
opinion of your own, though!

from Year 8, De Warenne Academy:

i think this book is AMAZING!!! i particularly liked chapter 9
as it give a vital bit of the story away, before that chapter i
did not like this book because it was a bit patchy. i loved
when Conner and Alicia had to go to the safe house but the
driver was on the opposite side!!!!! i would rate this book
100000/10 (but there is no button for that) and recomend it to
11+ years olds. i would not have chosen this book if it wasn't
for DBA!!!!!!!!

I have just finished reading Bodyguard:Hostage, one of my new
favourite shooter books. When I saw the cover, I knew I had to
read it. The book is about a man who has only one mission,
protect the presidents daughter at ALL COSTS. I would recommend
this book mostly for dynamic readers due to its range of guns,
choice of dialogue and story line. If you had a choice between
this and Silverfin, choose Bodyguard!

Bodyguard: Hostage is about a boy called Conner Reeves, who
takes up being a Buddy Guard after winning a kickboxing match.
Soon he is sent away to America to protect the president's
daughter, ready for all the action that being a buddy guard may

Adventure and quick escapes make this book exciting to read.
It is aimed at people who like adventure stories and stories
that change quickly. I rate it 5 stars.

Maggie from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I absolutely loved this book, I could not put it down. Connor
is my favourite character because he's brave and a black belt
in martial arts. He becomes what his dad did and saves a very
important life and he's suddenly a hero.

Daisey from Year 9, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book in my opinion is a 50/50 chance . You love it or hate
it , I hate it . It was horrible the plot was very poor. It is
totally confusing. I have never read any of the authors books
and do not wish too, but on the other hand it had some great
action and characters. My fave character was Charlie she made
the ultimate sacrifice for he president and has lost the
ability to indulge in her passion (surfing) . However despite
my dislike to this book I would recommend it to to an action
lover because it was defintely not lacking in those areas -
like I said, 50/50 chance.

Aidan from Year 13:

The latest book to come from Chris Bradford just does not
disappoint. Coming from the man who bought us the breath taking
'Young Samurai' series, this book has it all. Connor, British
UK Martial Arts Champion learns his father was killed in action
defending an American politician - the future President. Connor
is then put through rigorous training and is soon sent on his
very own mission - guard the daughter of the President. The
story twists and turns in each direction, throwing the reader
around like a rollercoaster. It's packed full of action,
suspense and twists. I have got several copies of this book and
have read each copy at least three times since it's release,
it's a definite must read for anyone out there who enjoyed
Young Samurai, Young Bond, Alex Rider, H.I.V.E and Artemis
Fowl. 10/10 from me!

daniel from Year 9, The Armthorpe Academy:

this book is full of adventure and jam packed with exitement

assess the threat
counter the danger
escape the killzone

are the three main routes a buddy guard has to follow and in my
opinion connor reeves definetly follows in his fathers
footsteps and stick to his prinsible like glue the imagination
and in some cases true fact that chris bradford incorprites
into is books is breathtaking and he is definetly my new all
time favourite author he has the capability to use real life
situations and turn them into a full scale of the chart action
packed scenario that in most cases takes my breath away and he
does all this using only words this book amazes me in many ways
and the author does to i loved this book and found it hard to
put down im glad it is was in the shortlist in my oppinion it
deserved its place with no competition full stop.

Bradley from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I really enjoyed this book because it had a interesting
storyline to it.
It only put me off it a bit because there were a lot of pages
and words to read but other than that it was a really good book
and is highly reccomended by me.

Kalli from Year 8, De Warenne Academy:

I liked this book and would read it again. Its so action packed
and filled with danger but.... the story is so unbeliveable i
mean a 14 year old bodyguard really. Don't get me wrong its
AMAZING but i doubt that a 14 year old can protect the
presidants daughter from kidnap death and attack. The lovey-dov
aspect as well was horrible i mean if your going to put it in
there its either all or none. And the worst of it all
Buddyguard. Buddyguard!!!!! I get the pun but its so
cringe-worthy its hard tryng to take it seriously with a name
like that. All in all it was good and im not saying it ist. I
would recommend this to jokey people who like adventure and
action and i give it a 4 out of ten.

Owen from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Bodyguard is an action packed book which was very hard to put
down. It was about protecting a VIP from different
orginisations which wanted to kidnapp her. I would reccomend
this book to anyone who likes a bit of fighting and a
edge-of-your-seat adventure.

Brooke from Year 8, De Warenne Academy:

This was one of the books that was enjoyable for me this year.
This remined me of Robert Muchamore's book series CHERUB.
Espacilly when Callum is in training just like James did in the
CHERUB series. Also i liked how he Presedent chose Callum for
the job because of what his dad did. i recomeend this book to
pepole who liked the CHERUB series.

Dylan from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This is a pretty good book but could use some improvement.
There seems to be non-stop violence and not too much of a
The parts that I liked most were the war and gun references.
My favourite character was Connor's Dad because he was
determined to do his job even at the cost of his own life.
Like I said before, the only thing that I disliked was the lack
of storyline.
I would reccomend this book because it's full of action
although not a lot else.

Daniel from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I really enjoyed this book, it's a gripping story filled with
action and adventure of a young boy who knows karate and his
path to protecting the president daughter from terrorist who
are plotting to kidnap her.

My favorite character has to be Connor because he is just so
badass in every way. He know's karate and can kick ass.

I gave this book a 10/10 because it is just awesome and you
NEED to read it!

Josh from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This is an action book. The opening of the story grabs your
attention because it is straight into the action. Connor, the
main character is given Bodyguard's toughest mission,
protecting the President's daughter. The character I most
dislike is Malik because he wants to release those responsible
for 9/11. I would recommend this book to friends.
