Daisey from Year 9, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Osbert the avenger is about a boy who is incredibly smart and
takes revenge on his school tutors after they were terribly
mean to his best friend Isabella , his father, mother, nanny
and him. He goes about this incredibly well and it has the
perfect balance of not too much but lots of details of the
terrible killings .
The main characters are Osbert, Isabella and Nanny. Its all
about Osbert but goes to other peoples views also.
I loved Mr Lomm because he cares so much for the children that
he would be harmed to save them (and he gives them treats ) .
I did not like Nanny though because she had corrupted the
little boys head with the words " To undo others before they
can undo you " and should not have told such tales .
I highly recommed this book for someone in y6 or above because
its kind of gruesome
Gruesomeness alert !!!

Jessica from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

This book was amazing!!!!!!!! It's one of my favourite books
along with the Cathy Cassidy books which were in the book
awards last year. It's about a boy called osbert who has to go
to the institute. Once I picked it up I could not put it down.
My favourite part was at the very end. My favourite character
was Isabella because she's smart. I would recommend this book
to people who like horror or mystery.

Marshall from Year 6, Balby Street Primary School:

This book is about a really intelligent baby who grows up to
about ten and wants to get in the institute mausoleum. If you
have not read this book that is a very big school.
My favourite part was when Osbert was taking his exam to get
into the institute. There was nothing I disliked about the book
and I would highly recommend it to eleven or twelve year olds.I
would give this book ten out of ten. It is a really good
adventure story.

Tina from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I like this book really well. I would give it a 9 out of 10
because it is creative and the author has had big ideas also he
put some true bits of history in there because if you you are
naughty you get whipped or get something thrown at you like in
the historical times. This story is about a smart intelligent
boy and he gets thrown out of school so he starts killing
people no-one knew so this is a mystery. The reason I give this
book a 9 not a 10 is because I started to get bored and
confused about the characters because the author brought in
characters I didn't know at the end of the book. I think this
book would be for 10 to 16 years of age because it is quite
hard but I would give it to people under 16 cause it is a bit

Holly from Year 7, De Warenne Academy:

This is a tale of dark delights and ghastly goings-on of
injustice and revenge. The villans are vicious, the settings
are sinister and good does not always prevail.
This book also drags on.

josie from Year 6, Saltersgate Junior School:

If you prefer CLEAVERS to kittens and FIENDS to fairies...

This is a warning. DONT READ THIS AT NIGHT TIME!!!!
Love the ways Osbert kills his teachers. Dont be fooled about
I recommend this to year 6 or over maybe
I really enjoyed this book! I skipped a bit but when Osbert
starts killing in the most gruesomly funniest ways. Its not
THAT scary but i could be at night time.

Sophie from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Osbert the Avenger was probably the best book I ever read. It's
very dark and mysterious, and murdurous. Osbert always has a
plan and is very secretive. That's why he is my favourite

I would deffinately recomend this book to fans of murders.
