kaitlin from Year 8, Ridgewood School:

i liked the book because it was full of surprises like when we found out that the bold's neighbor was a bear and when we found out that the hyenas could walk on their back legs and speak English. i also like this book because it built up a lot of tension because you never knew if any on was going to find out that the bold's were hyenas. my favourite part was when the bold's neighbor dropped his shopping and and tony showed all of his teeth and helped his neighbor i liked this part because it was an unexpected thing to happen and that is why i enjoyed reading the book. i would recommend this book to a younger audience because it is very fun and it would make younger children want to read. overall i would say this is a good book for people who would like to laugh a lot while reading a book

Jemma from Year 8, Ridgewood School:

The Bolds is a very good story! It's about 2 hyenas that get dressed up as humans. However, they look like humans. They can walk on their hind legs, get jobs and even talk English. They move to a place called Teddington and they have twins called Bobby and Betty. Then at their local zoo, a hyena would get put down but, the Bolds have a rescue up their sleeve. This book is all about discovering and secrets. I love this book because it's sooooooo funny and the characters are just fantastic. The whole book gets a bit of tension but all in all it's the best book I've ever read. The illustrations are just brilliant and it's really creative in terms with the whole story. In my opinion, I think the Tiltle is quite catchy and I thought, this is going to be a really good book and you know what..... It was!! I really enjoyed reading and I had hours of laughing at the book and I would definitely recommend it to any one not just for young children! I would definitely give it 10/10! It's a great book all together. Well Done for this amazing book! I LOVE IT!

Jemma from Year 8, Ridgewood School:

The Bolds is a really good book to read. It's about 2 hyenas that come into the "real" world. They move to a place called Teddington. They have twins called Bobby and Betty. The 2 hyenas were called Amelia and Fred. Then they have a rescue up their sleeve to save a old hyena from getting put down at their local Zoo. But, knowing the Bolds, they have a crazy idea up their sleeve!..... I throughly enjoyed the Bolds because it was really funny and the illustrations were just fantastic and looked so real. However, the characters where very created in terms with Mr and Mrs Bolds jobs. I had hours of laughing at Mr Bold! I would definitely recommend this book for anyone not just for young children. Also, I would definitely give it a 10/10. Well Done for this amazing book! I'll read it over...and....over again and not get bored of it! I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

Marks out of 10: 10

keira from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

The Bolds is one of my favourite books as it shows humour, but it has some serious aspects to show that not everything was easy and the hyenas had to try to adapt to a new lifestyle. Also, I think this book is suitable for almost all ages, especially junior pupils. I think this book is relatable even though it is about hyenas who try to act like people.

Marks out of 10: 10

lexie from Year 5, Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Primary School:

I really enjoyed the bold and it's really funny especially one of the jokes what the dad does and last of all it makes me wonder what it would be like if I was a hyena

I chose this book because it looks good and the blurb sounds good and I`ve always wanted to read this. My favourite character is Mr bold ,that is a hyena, because he tells lots of jokes and he is really funny. My favourite part of this book is when all the animals arrive at the bolds house because they are so confused. I think this book is pretty weird because they have a crocodile a sheep two race horses, a dog that wants to be a singer and some other little guests living at there house. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read the other bolds book.

The Bolds was a hilarious book to read and I thought It was a fascinating, magical book showing that not all humans are as clever as animals, In fact animals in my perspective are a lot Clever and interesting. I think anyone who is interested in comedy and having a good old laugh will love this book. Even if you think that a few animals dressed up and pretending to be humans isn't going to be funny you are wrong, You are a 100 times wrong. I love this book and I am going to let all my family read it because I know whatever age you are this will make you burst out in tears of joy. My favourite character has to be betty because she is very sassy and likes modelling herself and being the best of the best. The funniest part has to definitely be ... When they found out old Mr mcnumpty was actually... Wait for this... A BEAR !! I was overwhelmed with joy with this book so all you guys should read it Your sincerely Ellie-May Glover

Do you like a book with an adventure but also very funny ? Then this is the book for you. The Bolds are just regular people living a regular life but no The Bolds have a big hairy secret. The real Fred and Amelia Bold were eaten by crocodiles and Spot and Sue (the fake Mr and Mrs Bold) discovers them and move to England to become Fred and Amelia Bold. I rated this book 10 because it is really funny .

Hey! Are you interested in funny and silly stories about hyenas and grizzly bears? Well if you are, this is the perfect book for YOU! And I'm one of those people and that's why I like it. It is about two hyenas living in Africa which travel to the city of Teddington in Britain. But they disguised as something. And that very special something is something that YOU need to find out. And there's only one way to do that... READ IT!! The two hyenas have birth then adopt another hyena (called Tony) from a safari park. It is now Christmas, and Mr McNumpty (aka Mr McGrumpy) from next door comes round; but what else happens in this book............?

The Bolds was impeccable! The plot of the story was very funny, sweet and friendly. I liked it when Mr Bold would tell a joke because I found them very funny. The main characters were Mr Bold, Mrs Bold, Betty Bold ,Bobby Bold and Tony. In a summary of words the book was about four hyenas who pretend to be humans, after a long while of living in England the Bolds (hyena family) have to save a local hyena (Tony) from the zoo otherwise he would get put down. I really really liked this book and couldn't let go of it. In my opinion I recommend it to other primary school children because it's a funny interesting book. Thank you for reading

When I started reading this book I couldn't stop. I find this book very easy to get the stories point also it is very, very funny so I definitely recommend it to kids. You also need a great imagination to read it. I really enjoyed so I cant wait to read some more of Julian Clary's books. I gave this a 10 out of 10 because its really funny and also you never know what will happen next! My favourite character is Mr Bold because he is always telling jokes and they actually are good because in some books they tell jokes that actually aren't funny or make sense! I recommend this book for 8 or older also if children who are younger and actually get the point in funny books. I think everybody should try out this book if they aren't boring. Was reading books before and they made me very board whilst this one makes me can't stop reading. In the next books will the animals actually go of and make a name for themselves? Later on I found the rescue of Tony and Miranda very interesting but what will happen next to them?
